Being a native from Caxinas, Vila do Conde, Portugal's largest fishing community, the sea has always been my second home and throughout my life I have dealt with the problems of fishing activity up close. That sparked a great curiosity in finding solutions to such problems, which led me to my interest in aquaculture.
Aquaculture is the future, but also the present. It’s about time we look at the sea and its species as en essential as part of our survival. My degree in Marine Sciences, gave me basic knowledge on the dynamics and interactions of the marine environment, whether they are physical, biological or chemical. Then, in 2021, I finished my Master's in Marine Sciences and Marine Resources - Specialization in Aquaculture and Fisheries.
In aquaculture I also found that I could branch out to conservation and sustainability projects which fuel that childhood dream of giving back and protecting the oceans I love so much. Therefore, I joined Zoomarine's Marine Specimen Rehabilitation Center - "Porto D'Abrigo", that way I can facilitate a second chance at life, to creatures that, in one way or another, were affected by our own actions. Also I'm involved in all conservation projects, as a Conservation Technician, under the motto "Together We Protect" - "Operação Praia Limpa", "Operação Montanha Verde", "Projeto Falanges", "EAZA Annual Conference 2022", and much more...
Whether it is through aquaculture, fishing or conservation "Portugal is Sea!", which I now adapt to: "The World is Sea!" but we have to know how to get the best out of it, because without this blue giant at our side, we are nothing…
