Marc Kundmann

I have been on my art journey for over 25 years, creating work in my studios in Provincetown, Massachusetts, USA and more recently In Mérida, Yucatán, MX. I have explored a variety of media and subjects over the years. My work uses the visual language of the the places I live—the unique features of landscape, structures, flora and fauna, and the people I encounter. I am forever a student and enjoy exploring new media and ways to build images. I spent many years primarily as an encaustic painter. I currently working with cold wax and oil, often over a base of acrylic. Using the unique qualities of each of these media allow me to build and remove layers of color, transparency, and pigments, and also use texture expressively. I am interested in setting scenes of ambiguity and contrasts that invite the viewer to create their own narrative. I am moving back to oil based work, and in remastering this technique. My recent work focuses on the people I have encountered in my life.
