Karen Fung

I grew up in a concrete jungle of Hong Kong . While I can be happily staying at home painting or making things, my restless soul is probably incurable. Climbing a frozen waterfall in outskirts Beijing, hiking alone to the Annapurna base camp, camping in an eucalyptus Tasmanian forest listening to the morning laughs of the kookaburra, swimming in the Rhine river, cycling from Istanbul to the Lesbos island... I would say yeses to all of that. After studying a creative art degree in Melbourne, I had, for a while, worked on a yacht as a deckhand while bringing up my child. For the past decade, I lived in Istanbul writing and illustrating children’s books. I have about 40 books published. My major work is bilingually designed picture story books to facilitate early literacy phase in second language learning. I am an independent thinker and a poet at heart. I believe creative energy is an inner force to sublimate our desires and vision and ultimately to become oneself.
