Heather Horton

My primary work is as a psychologist and wellness professional. However, art has always been an important part of my life. Growing up, my parents encouraged my sister and I to draw, sew, and engage with other artistic media. My parents collected art, so weekends were often spent visiting galleries, antique stores, and museums. My maternal grandparents were bird carvers, and I was fascinated by the way they created incredibly realistic birds using carving tools, wood burners, wire, paint and glass eyes. Throughout my adult life I have "dabbled" with different materials including pencil drawing, plaster sculpture, clay, hand-made paper, and polymer clay. My husband and I started a woodworking business in 2015, creating functional art in the form of serving platters, plates, hand-sewn wood journals, and lamps. My profile image shows one of our Illuminated Wall Art pieces which combine wood and translucent polymer clay.
