Turning my hobby into a business
Hi! Didn't know if I should post here or in Craft but here goes anyway haha
I'm thinking of turning my crafting into a side job to see if I can make some extra cash that way. I crochet and sew and have gotten quite good at it recently. Does anyone have any tips on how to start advertising and selling the things I make?

Hi Ally!
I would recommend selling on Instagram and Pinterest. Those are two very good platforms to sell anything craft-related. You don't need to invest money in ads to sell at the beginning. I believe there are organic ways to drive ideal clients to your business without investing money. However, you will have to invest time.
I'd recommend working on a content strategy to sell your services/products.
- Have a clear BIO that specify exactly what you offer and have a click-through action for people to contact you (it can be as easy as "For customized pieces, message me in DMs"
- Work on defining your ideal client. Who are they? What do they like to do? Do they have a problem you provide a solution for?
- Work on a content strategy. Think about topics you'd like to share on your business account and what value will they add (education, inspirational, entertaining, etc...) Once you've established those contents pillars, brainstorm ideas thinking directly about your ideal client.
- Plan your content. The best thing to do is think how many times you want to post content per week, plan it and schedule it ahead of time. Consistency is key! Whether you want to post only 2 times a week, 3 times a week or 7 times a week, you have to be consistent.
- Have a variety of content types: Instagram is always rolling out new features (last year was the year of Reels) and Instagram's algorithm really pushes accounts that use all their features (Main feed images, Main feed videos, Main feed carousels, Stories, IGTV, Reels, Lives, etc..)
- Work on your Hashtags. Hashtags are a great way for your content to reach new potential customers. Try to find niche-related hashtags that aren't too saturated (anything between 20k-100k posts per hashtags are a good place to start). Write down a list of hashtags per content pillar that you decided
- Engage with your audience. Spend at least 30 minutes a day commenting on other accounts, answering your Dms, showing up on stories, etc...
There are so many tips to give out. Let me know if you have a specific question.
