Ebenezer Okike

My name is Ebenezer Okike a documentary photographer from Nigeria. Upon
spending time in Southern Nigeria, I became deeply interested in documenting
the state of immigration and education in Cross River State as it’s an influx zone
for Cameroonians fleeing from the Ambazonian conflict, this turned out to be
my first documentary project. My approach to stories is focused on drawing an
attention to a new generation with emerging stereotypes and desires, reaching
out to communities and employing artistic representation to tell stories that go
beyond their present state but also touching innate traits, traits that have
shaped their culture or have been shaped by their culture. I was recently a part
of the Photojournalism workshop with Pascal Maitre courtesy of the Alliance
Francais, French Institute and the Storymi Academy. My current practice fuses
art with documentary photography telling stories of my ideas, hopes and
struggles through everyday life. I’m the gallery assistant at the Omenka gallery
and a member of the African Photojournalism Database currently working and living in Lagos.
