Introduction
I created a poster for a fictional nightclub. I wanted to practice my new skills in Affinity and graphic design. I asked ChatGPT for a brief which is attached.

Supplies
I used Affinity for vector designing, plus a photograph from Unsplashed credited to Kajetan Sumila.

My Initial Design
I started with the brief from ChatGPT. I started thinking about my target audience and the emotions I wanted to stir. So I thought of my old days as a student and the lights in a nightclub. So I decided to source a photo of a club night from Unsplash. I looked at the requirements from the brief and selected a font that reminded me of the electronic music- Cascadia Mono. I wanted to do simplicity well, so I decided to keep to the one font.
I stuck strictly to the brief and the hierarchy of information. I kept it monotone, the only colour coming from the poster underneath which I lessened the focus of using a gaussian blur.
My first attempt at the poster is attached below.

Simplified
Feeding the poster back into ChatGPT gave me mostly positive feedback. However, I was to make the dates, artists and timing info more distinct. Make the genre text smaller, the bottom section felt too crowded.
It also suggested trying to make it without the background image. So I tried incorporating the above suggestions.

Centralised
The feedback was again positive. Only this time, the top section with the title felt too empty, the artists' list needed to be more intentional, the bottom section felt too detached from the rest of the poster and the date/time hierarchy needed revision.
Suggestions for next steps were to try the typography in a centralised way.

Adding colour
The title spacing still needed a little tightening up, the middle section needs a visual pause, the bottom stack is clean but quiet.
The suggestion this time was to add colour to a single word.

Almost there
It wasn't happy with my title spacing yet, the ticket info needs a bit more authority and the genre title spacing could be reduced. But it was overall pleased with my progress.
It suggested using a black background this time so I went ahead and tried it.

Final step
I was overall happy with the elements but wanted to return to using the original photography, seeing if I could improve on my first shot. The result is below.
