Final Project: The Little Prince - Kawaii-Style Story Illustration course

My final project was an illustration featuring characters and scenes from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's children's book, The Little Prince.

I decided to turn the characters into dogs as cats are usually my go-to and I wanted to try something different. But that means I had to pass up a pun opportunity of "The Little Purrince" ;)

I illustrated 4 scenes from the novel in my own way - the little prince with his rose on his planet, the little prince venturing to earth, the little prince meeting the fox (my personal favourite) and the narrator looking up at the stars (probably to hear them laughing).

Throughout the illustration are items relating to other scenes, such as the 6 planets and items relating to the people he meets on them (map, beer bottle, calculator, crown) and the plane and perfect sheep (the box), which relate to the narrator. Roses are also prevalent in the book, so I added them around the illustration for interest.

Finally, the word "friends" was added because no full quote from the book would fit, but also because I think it's a big theme in the book itself.

This was a fun but challenging project that allowed me to think creatively and work on something I haven't had a lot of experience with (repeating illustration). Sara Gaiaudi is a wonderful instructor and artist and their course Kawaii-Style Story Illustration was so carefree and enjoyable! I look forward to any more courses they may put out in the future.
