Light through the black forest

I had been biking in the Black Forest in south Germany and took a pic where the light was going through the trees .
I decided to try to paint it.
Started with the dense background spattering paint droplets through the sheet, after few white preservation with masking fluid on smaller areas, keeping a trace of the trees by lifting paint.
I believe to much paint at start. For the trees I applied multi thin layers to try to provide density and shades.
Very hard exercise for me.

I just made the front trunk to the right more dark as well as the shadow of the distant tree and it changes the perception

Arche 300gr paper, masking fluid, schmincke watercolors, natural and synthetic brush. I did not apply salt but should in another occasion
