West Bay

This is an oil on stretched canvas 30 x 24" piece which captures a perfect sunny weekend afternoon with family. I wanted to capture a reasonable likeness of those involved as well as a sense of emotion. Relaxed and Happy.

Yellow Ochre & Burnt Sienna acrylic for preparation.
A range of Michael Harding oil colours.
A range of sized ProArte flat brushes.

I used a stretched canvas 30 x 24" which I primed using a reasonably thin Yellow Ochre acrylic wash. Then I sketched out the poses using a range of reference photographs I took at the time. I fixed the sketch when I was happy with the composition. My final bit of preparation was to outline the main points of the figures with a Burnt Sienna acrylic. This gave me a solid foundation before I started using oil paints but this overall process also lends itself well to correcting mistakes as I go.
