Rare Earth

Courtesy of the Artist (COTA) are a leading purveyor of contemporary jewellery and object design. They offer some of Sydney’s most dynamic collections in their three galleries, located in the historic Strand Arcade building. I was commissioned to create the 2019 branding for their annual Rare Earth – Australian Made exhibition, which celebrates contemporary Australian jewellery design and gems.

Using native flora, photographed by COTA’s co-director Cesar Cueva, I used digital collage to create a contemporary and uniquely Australian hero graphic for print and web. This was reimagined into large scale two-story banners to hang in the central void of the Strand Arcade. My approach with the banners was to design pieces that not only made the jewellery and gems the heroes, but also provided a subtle nod to the building’s decorative Victorian architecture. For Instagram marketing, I created an animation, complete with an Australian soundscape.
