Introduction
Greetings! I made this for the Children's Illustration contest because I wanted to create something cute that my daughter would like. She is a fan of the books about food characters (living under an analogy) and I thought it would be fun to draw an not-so-sweet Sweet Potato with an attitude in the same style. What are they rebelling against, exactly? Starchy's answer would be "What have you got?"

Supplies
I used:
• Adobe Photoshop (primary software) Primary tool for drawing, coloring, composition and editing.
• An Unsplash stock image, provided for free, for texture of the street
• I used some of my daughters books as reference, specifically Jory Johns as inspiration
• Digital art brushes and textured brushes

Starchy: The Not So Sweet Potato
I dove right in on drawing the Sweet Potato cartoon. I had a concrete idea of a rebel Sweet Potato in a simplistic cartoon style. I debated the leather jacket a little but I think it sells they as a "Bad" potato a bit more as they flip a coin. This was basically a "Stream of consciousness" drawing - where I worked on it with a clear idea from start to finish. I hope people like it!
