I decided to recreate Maru Godàs' beautiful painting in my watercolor sketchbook since I didn't have a canvas readily available. However, I must admit that the task proved to be quite challenging for me. You see, I've never had the opportunity to visit Spain and witness its breathtaking beaches and lush vegetation firsthand, which made it difficult to capture the essence of the scene.
Working without any visual references was an entirely new experience for me. I had to rely solely on my imagination and the impression I had formed of Spain through books and stories. It felt like exploring uncharted territory, trying to recreate the vibrant colors, the sparkling water, and the vibrant greenery without a tangible point of reference.
Furthermore, this was my first attempt at capturing transparency in my artwork. It required a delicate touch and a deep understanding of how light interacts with different layers of paint. Despite my extensive experience in drawing spanning over five decades, working with transparency presented a unique set of challenges that tested my skills and pushed me outside my comfort zone.
Nonetheless, I approached the task with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. While it may not have been an easy endeavor, I embraced the opportunity to expand my artistic horizons and develop my techniques. It was a humbling experience that reminded me of the endless possibilities for growth and improvement, no matter how long one has been pursuing their passion.
In the end, although I may not have fully captured the essence of Maru Godàs' original artwork or the captivating beauty of Spain, I take pride in the effort I put into the painting. It serves as a testament to my dedication as an artist, always willing to explore new subjects and tackle unfamiliar challenges.
