I love the composition, which immediately captures the attention of the observer. I also like the harmony of color that you have achieved and how the background is part of the story.
For contributing something here are some suggestions that we could improve:
-The vegetation in the foreground breaks the color harmony a bit and stands out too much. To avoid this, a good solution is to use a layer above all the illustration work with a color within the main gamut, in normal mode and with a very low opacity, so that it is almost imperceptible, but that will unify those discordant colors.
-I would have added more texture to the background, both with a layer in overlay mode, and using a color dynamics brush to add a subtle variation of color in the brush strokes. But this is a personal preference, sometimes I even seem to abuse this.
-I really like the idea of the second specimen in the background to tell how the bird is in flight, we could go a step further with a third specimen also in flight, but showing its ventral part. The blur effect works well, but to preserve detail you can also use an atmospheric perspective effect, overlaying a layer of the background color, in a way that gives us the feeling of distance without having to use too much blur.
