Whenever I travel somewhere, I plan a visit to its financial district. These places, in different cities, give me the same feeling. It's as if I've entered a new world within that city. The landscape changes; I'm surrounded by concrete giants, columns, staircases, and gray areas, by people who can't stray from a marked path. I see people in a hurry, looking suspiciously, carrying their briefcases, all with the same appearance. There's no difference between them; it's like an army of anonymous, vigilant shadows.
It's the non-human factor. It seems that man, in his quest to feel integrated into a group, has been devoured by the whole, losing his status as an individual. He has abandoned his essence, lost his face, and become part of the scenery, becoming more gray areas. In these photographs, I have separated the person from the group, so that he no longer belongs to the whole. Despite this, he does not regain his nature as an individual; he remains anonymous, thus stripping him of all meaning.
