Pliego, designed by Madrid-based Juanjo López, is a typeface designed to offer comfortable reading for long texts, with humanistic proportions, a uniform texture, and calligraphic details visible only at large sizes, giving it a contemporary feel.
Pliego takes its name from the Pliegos de Cordel, cheap printed works popular from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Their content ranged from folk tales to rhymes and songs, including crimes and curious incidents. Crudely printed and barely bound, they were sold by street vendors. Pliego evokes the language of the printer's trade, as well as the idea of a careless appearance and informal subject matter, but with classic models.
Pliego can be found on the website of Juanjo López , and on other websites such as FontSpring or MyFonts with a 50% introductory discount during June and July.
