MOONHEAD

MOONHEAD is a fictional character that has always prevailed in my work, since I was a teenager! When I was younger, I always felt like an outsider, never fitting in. I never really got society rules of gender, so one day I came up with the idea of making this character that have no gender, no hair, no specific color (it varies) and also - most of the time - do not use clothes. I called them MOONHEAD, first because of the shape of their head, like a full moon, and second because of their nature. In my mind, they are from outer space, somewhere far far away, and when on Earth, they are always with their head in the clouds, daydreaming.

Luckily, I love to record my work, so I have a lot of drafts of this character. Early on, most of my work was made on paper, with pencil, pens and sometimes I colored it with watercolor or markers. The recent ones are digital, I love painting on Adobe Photoshop so there are a lot of artwork featuring them in digital format. For over 10 years, I had an art shop and a lot of products were with MOONHEAD on it! For the products, I used Adobe Illustrator a lot.

I consider MOONHEAD a character from the bright side! They are super loyal, whimsical and magical creatures, very much like humans, but pure. They interact with nature a lot and often wander in space reflecting about life. They love company but they know the importance of solitude. We could learn a lot with them, right?

Over the years, MOONHEAD changed a bit. Ironically, in the beginning, they were more intricate, with some curly details in their collarbones, knees and elbows… I liked them, but as I developed my art, I understood that not always a lot of information means a better art. As I simplified them, they became more charismatic and cute. They always have pink cheeks, that's a must!
As I mentioned before, they don't have a specific color, but I often use blue. I think it is a calming color and it resonates with them being from space. They also often are represented in space or earth, sometimes being a magical creature, like a gnome. So they are a bit mutant! Sometimes when they are in a fantasy world, they have pointed ears. When they are in the real world, they have rounded ears. Imagination guides the way!

At least the MOONHEAD now, in 2025 (it may change in the future, who knows?)
