Rebecca Walzer

I am a teaching artist living on the coast of California who would normally be teaching in the public schools and working with students from a variety of backgrounds: emotionally disturbed, deaf and hard of hearing, migrant education. The public schools are closed here for the foreseeable future, so I'm using this time for professional development as well as learning to create virtual lessons for my students.
I learned to embroider as a child. Both my mother and grandmother were excellent seamstresses and adept at other textile arts (knitting, crocheting, etc.). My grandmother did crewel work, and I still have a pillow decorated by her with abstract flowers. It's a treasure. I have also dabbled in making rag dolls from old clothes since I am the mother of three daughters, and now I have a granddaughter who is learning to sew!
