Elisa Quevedo

Elisa was born in Guatemala City in 1958 where she got her degree in Interior Design. Later, she did Fine Art studies at the University of Texas in Austin, USA. It is there where she was introduced to Batik and since then, it has been her main technique for expressing herself.
She works on fabric and paper. In some of her work, she creates a 3D effect by applying machine embroidery and trapunto. Nature and memories from her country have been her sources of inspiration. She also enjoys producing abstract images playing with shapes, textures and colours.
She has exhibited in United States, France, Switzerland, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Austria and Italy.
Elisa has participated in Cambridge Open Studios and has taught Art and Batik to children and adults and has worked as an artist in residence in schools.
She belongs to The Batik Guild, UK, an organisation that has given her, over the years, not just the possibility to meet and learn from other Batik artists but to participate in exhibitions, workshops and to be a member of the organisation committee.
