PROCESO DE EJECUCIÓN DEL STORYBOARD YOUTUBE WORKS AWARDS 2023
1. PRIMER CONTACTO

YOUTUBE WORKS AWARDS 2023 STORYBOARD EXECUTION PROCESS
FIRST CONTACT
Upon receiving an email from the advertising agency with an attached script, we schedule a meeting via Google Meet.
NOTES
In this online meeting, the director and his assistant explain the general idea of the script, detailing what happens from the beginning to the end of the awards ceremony gala. The storyboard serves as a guide, a "map" so that the entire production team knows what should happen, in which sequence, what type of lighting will be in each scene, which characters enter and exit the scene, what action they perform in each shot, what cuts, frames, and camera movements should be used.
As the director explains the script, I quickly sketch notes, known as "cuatro rayas," (four lines) in a simple and basic manner, without worrying about the anatomy of the characters, without details or shadows. These notes are sufficient for the director and me to understand how the frames will look. This is a collaborative process, and a good storyboard artist can contribute new ideas to enhance the narrative, plan innovative shots, and create more interesting compositions. These improvements make the film better, and satisfied clients are likely to hire you for future projects.
REFERENCES
After the meeting, the storyboard artist has all the approved notes and begins to search extensively for photographic references for each element in the sketch. For example, if a note requests a low-angle shot of a street lamp with a young woman next to it, the artist will search for a photograph of a low-angle shot of a street lamp and another photograph of a young woman standing in a similar perspective. Harmonizing photos with different perspectives and lighting is a skill of the storyboard artist.
ROUGHS
In the case of the "YouTube Works Awards 2023," with many frames and little time, I skipped the step of cutting and assembling photos in Photoshop, a process explained in my course "Storyboard Illustration with Procreate." Instead, while viewing photographic references on my iMac screen, I added details to the sketches. This process, called "rough," aims to improve the anatomy and expressions of characters using photos but with a still "dirt" drawing, with many lines shaping the elements.
OUTLINES
Once all the roughs are completed, we start the "clean-up" process, tracing the rough sketches with a clean and expressive line, creating the final drawing.
GRAYS
With all the drawings featuring clear and well-executed outlines, we create a layer called "Gray," where we fill the images with light and dark gray masses to create a unique atmosphere for each frame. It's noticeable in almost all frames of this storyboard how I represented the ceiling's light beams directed toward the characters.
SUBMISSION
After completing the grayscale and shading stage, we proceed to send the work. We use "WeTransfer" to send the entire project in a single Photoshop document with layers, where each frame has a folder with a numerical sequence: Frame 1, 2, 3, and so on.

EXCELENTE TRABAJO!
@jandresbm22
Gracias Jorge

Very inspiring storyboards!! That Dry Ink/ Tinta Seca brush is my favourite. Going to create grey scale palette based on your illustrations.
@d_adonis
Hello Dietrich Adonis (Ordoñez)!
@d_adonis
Thank you so much for your review! I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed my work and found the storyboards inspiring. The "dry ink" is interesting to me as it closely resembles the texture of a pencil on thick paper. It has a bit of a film-like texture, which adds to its uniqueness. It's exciting to know that you plan to create a grayscale palette based on my storyboards! It's not complicated; you just need to synthesize color masses into 5 shades: white (0% black), light gray (25% black), medium gray (50% black), dark gray (75% black), and black (100% black). With this palette, you can achieve various effects.
I truly appreciate your support and positive words. Thanks again, and I hope you have an amazing day!
Best regards,
