Inspired by 'Coco Chanel' - Black and Gold Camellias

This cake was created for a feature 'Inspired by Coco Chanel' at Cake International - Europe's biggest cake show in Birmingham in the the UK.

The cake design was inspired by an iconic Chanel headscarf design that I loved!

The cake was mainly covered in black sugarpaste and was freehand hand painted using cocoa butter and lustre dusts to create the floral design. I added hand crafted sugar, trailing leaves, finished with gold lustre to add movement to the design and replicate the feel of the illustration on the headscarf.

The 2D flat camellias were cut from flower paste and painted and stuck onto the cake. The addition of the gold bar spacer added a bit of interest and texture to the design!
