Merging computational techniques with a natural architectural language, ‘the Cloudbridge’ by Arturo Tedeschi reflects the site’s existing landscape. Influenced by 60’s avant garde (in particular by the italian team Superstudio), the project creates a non-linear path suspended between two points. Responding to both the mountain and the sky, a specific algorithm was used to design a cloud-shape grid that balances the asymmetric loads of the footbridge. The bridge links two mountainsides via an ethereal, cloud-like structure. Though bridges are often a visual statement of strength, the Cloudbridge appears to float between mountains, blending into its natural surroundings. The latticed structure, bolstered by extreme engineering, creates a super stable bearing system that is meant to push the boundaries of architecture, engineering and construction.
