Every year for a long time now, whenever October approached, I had the firm intention of participating in Inktober and year after year, for one reason or another, I put it off. The need to draw is something that never leaves me and setting myself the challenge of making a drawing every day this year has tempted me more than ever, so I said to myself at the end of September "I'm going to try it".
It's true that I haven't followed the rules established for the theme to be done each day. What I've done is draw something I've wanted to. The seed started this summer. In my free time, I'd grab a notebook and a brush with ink and start drawing musicians I like.
Since I had so much fun making them, I thought it was a good starting point. So I set myself the challenge: to draw a musician every day who resonated with my musical tastes. The first drawing I made was of Nico, in the same format as the first idea. After doing it, I thought about it and changed the challenge to make it a little more complicated.
The challenge would be to draw a musician whose birthday is today, and I can't take more than half an hour to complete it.
A great help in achieving this has been the Facebook page Musical Ephemerides a great find and recommended for music lovers. Every day I look at who's birthday is, I do some research, listen to their music, and make the drawing. The process is very simple. First, I outline it in pencil and then I finish it with ink. Then I take a photo and upload it to Instagram. Since my table shines, I put some tracing paper between the light and the drawing to avoid the glare when taking the photo.
To make things even more complicated, I decided to add the artist's real name. The font chosen for the title must have been one of those that appear on one of his albums.
The materials I use for drawing are very common: mechanical pencil, eraser, calibrated markers and brush marker.
Below is the sequence of 31 drawings. Some are more successful than others. Nico is the only one who didn't have a birthday today :(
