Introduction
Have always loved haunted houses. Trying something new (markers) for sketching: the watercolor, and gouache and colored pencils that I've been using until now are not as convenient, or are too slow, and/or lack the vibrancy that I like.
Supplies
Micron 05 Fineliner, Artfinity alcohol markers, and 'Colour' (brand name) water markers. And Posca White. Didn't have all the right colors, so went with what I had.
Process.
Downloaded image. Then, for sketch, fine liner first. (Or, maybe first a 6H pencil, then fine liner). Then a few alcohol markers. Waited for it to dry. Paper was only 94lbs, so the alcohol seeped through ... but a blocking sheet of 140lb behind saved the next leaf ... but the reverse side of the above sketch was messy (fully expected, and didn't matter because I taped a printed image over messy side to juxtapose against my next sketch on the successive leaf). Then Colour markers over the alcohol. Then more fine liner. Then some Posca white.
Failed to 'embrace' my white space.
Have to overcome my compulsion to fill all areas. However, in this case I felt the white of the paper would detract from the dark mood I intended. Unfortunately my colors were too bright, so some of the dark mood of the reference photo was lost anyway.
