The feeling I decided to start with for Whimsical's author magazine is true to the business's identity, which is young adult and youth focused, with a bright, fun, welcoming and yet professional feeling. I found some inspiration that matched up relatively closely with Whimsical's colour palette, and used them to put together this mood board.

The fonts that I choose are the following: Bonny (it's cheerful, whimsical, and light. It is also the font used in the business's logo) for all headings, and sub-headings. I picked Satoshi for the body copy, as it's a clear and pleasant font to read. For captions, considering that they will be smaller than the body copy in my magazine, I chose Atkinson Hyperlegible for legibility purposes. I could potentially still use Satoshi for captions, but we'll see how it all shakes out as I move forward with designing my templates and the draft pages.

The following 5 WIPs are each different versions of ideas for the opening layout for the magazine!
The logo, and fonts, are official to the brand. The logo was also created by me, in another course on Domestika! :) The colours, and fonts were also organized by me for this client.

The following spreads are from the first version of the finished article, wherein I've used the business' colours. The article is a total of 10 pages, or 5 spreads.

The following spreads are from the second version of the finished article, wherein I've used colours from the images themselves to try and tie them into the pages better. The article is a total of 10 pages, or 5 spreads.

The following spreads are from the third version of the finished article, wherein I've used colours from the second version, but I added more images and played with image sizes more, except the first and last spread haven't seen much changes. The article is a total of 10 pages, or 5 spreads.

The following spreads are from the fourth version of the finished article, wherein I've used colours from the first version, and I added a few more organic shapes in the large blank spaces. I also included the actual information from the business's website. This is also the final version I ended up printing, and giving to Whimsical for something fun to review. The article is a total of 10 pages, or 5 spreads.
