The Achille Castiglioni Foundation has announced a competition to design a new logo and identity for the homonymous studio/museum dedicated to the famous Italian designer. The submitted project bases its concept on three of the most peculiar features of Castiglioni’s work: the playfulness, the accuracy (intended as discipline) and the teamwork. The subject of the mark is inspired by an anecdote told by Carlo Livio Castiglioni (Achille’s son) who narrates how, during his childhood, he used to play with his father, his uncles and Max Huber to fly paper hot-air balloons. He describes it as a game taken very seriously, as every detail was carefully studied before each hot-air balloon take-off. Furthermore, strong teamwork always used to characterize the game. This leads to the choice to use the hot-air balloon as a symbol to represent these concepts. Moreover, the graphic shapes of the mark design clearly recall the Castiglioni’s technical drawings.
