I really enjoyed this project which helped me to think a little more outside the box when developing my ideas. The brief was to create a self portrait using the text I wrote to introduce myself to the Editorial Illustration for Magazines course. I wanted to illustrate my self portrait not only as a character but as my inner self and the things I am inspired by. To illustrate this I used shadow to represent things that cannot be seen.
I used photoshop to develop my sketches and add colour and texture.

I was unsure how to represent myself in the shadow until i realised a side profile of my face would work well.

I wanted to portray emotion in the shadow so I used negative space to signify a river but also tears.

I added some blue tones to make the shadow stand out further which in turn gave the image more depth.
