Her name is North Star of Herschel Island. Found this lady in Heritage Harbour while looking for some sailboats to sketch.
I love boats sailed in Arctic since i was a kid. This one was built in 1935. She was used from 1936 to 1961 for transport for fur to market in early August and for transportation of supplies from Aklavik and Tuktoyaktuk to Sachs Harbour Banks Island in late August and September when ice conditions allowed.
Also from 1968 to 1973 she was used for scientific investigations in the Arctic Ocean.
Learned that the name of the polar bear figurehead is Fred. Carved by new owner.
