When I asked my brother if he wanted a painting for Christmas, his request was " A plate of spaghetti and meatballs, but all of the meatballs are strawberries, some of the spaghetti is black liqourice, and the plate is just a pile of nachos on a table."
A weird concept, and it took a lot of planning and learning to make, but I'm proud of how it turned out. Especially the strawberries, I learned very quickly how to paint those when I started out with no idea. All of the strawberry practice I did is uploaded here, the amount I improved from one to the next was huge.
I wanted to show all of the steps so that if anyone new to watercolours or discouraged because they feel like they arent good at them sees this, they'll see how much you can improve in a very short amount of time if you learn from every rough draft and apply that to the next draft. Learn how watercolour works and why, and you'll be able to see where you went wrong and know how to correct it quickly even if you are starting off with poor technique and no skill. You'll learn the skills as you go, and naturally get better with practice as you get used to the techniques and get better control.
Materials in final copy used: W&N cotman watercolour paints, Fabriano cold pressed 100% cotton watercolour paper, pebeo drawing gum/masking fluid/liquid frisket, and W&N permanent white designer's gouache.
