I was contacted by UH Hospital to create a piece for the rooftop garden at the Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. It consist of an indoor and outdoor space open to the public and the majority of the audience are adolescents and young adults receiving cancer treatment. I wanted to create something magical, so I decided to go for a secret garden. It is like an imaginary one where creatures and plants remain in an state of beauty. I wanted to bring colour, movement and balance between all the natural elements, and represent both animals and plants in a mutual cooperation. My choice was a group of hummingbirds. I particularly like to bring them alive trough my work because in the wild they are so hard to be seen. I wanted to share with the viewers a moment that it is often hard to stare at in real, a moment full of life and hope. I do hope this piece can cheer up lots of parents and children that are going trough hard times.
