Carving a Rope Knot

This is a monkey fist knot carved in Bath stone. British stones are my favourite to carve as I love using local stones, and feel a strong connection with them. The stone is quite soft which lends itself nicely to the ropey texture I was trying to achieve.

Sometimes I choose the design first and then the stone to suit it and other times I design the work to suit the stone.
