Reflecting on my experience working on this music video as a DOP, editor & colorist, brings me feelings of joy, flow and collaboration!
As soon as I heard the track: "DFFRNT", I knew I wanted to be a part of working on the visuals.
We had full control of the concept, and storyline, and I have to give thanks to D.$AHIN for her trust with this. We allowed the creativity to flow with this one and decided to create multiple 'worlds' and different perspectives within this visual.
The 1st world was 'reality', where D.$AHIN worked as a bartender, and we see her chatting with a co-worker while day-dreaming.
The 2nd world is an insight into her daydreams where she imagines the love interest 'Colin' is shirtless on stage, and she is showering him with bubbles.
Having the option to use green screen, also gave us more options to mix in dynamic performance footage.
Editing this was quite hilarious, and was happy to see the jokes flowing together.
There was one moment that was actually a mistake and ended up adding another element during the editing process!
At 2:07, this moment happened on set, and upon reviewing & organizing the footage, D.$AHIN's reaction was just real and quite funny. So we decided to leave it in, and remove the effect, to reveal the green screen behind her, effectively breaking the 4th wall.
We actually asked her to make a small 'break' in the song, to go along with this 'mistake'.
This can definitely happen, and sometimes, you can't really plan these things ahead of time, but now it's one of my favorite moments of this video!
Thanks again to the amazing team for making this music video happen!

Video Review by: Tayo Odutola
Rising artists KEYMER and D.$AHIN open up our video playlist with this contemplative record titled “DFFRNT”. The funk-soul tune explores the concept of being different or neurodivergent and the process of coming to terms with it. The lyrics are candid and nuanced while the use of sublime melodic runs also adds a nice touch to it. The visual style is quite creative and follows the singer as she moves through a world on her own accord which is far different from the norm and as difficult as it can seem, she always finds a way to get by even in the most awkward situations.
