Rising from Slumber

Though it is often described as a dangerous or undesirable place, Nairobi´s Kibera slum is a community like any other. At it´s core, the fabric of Kibera is made up of everyday people trying to make it through the day. On this particular Sunday morning, the streets were buzzing as residents donned their finest clothes for church, street vendors cooked up fresh breakfasts and businesspeople set off to work.

The purpose of this story is to combat the stigma and imagined reality that exists in the minds of many Nairobians when thinking about Kibera. By showing the most banal moments of everyday life, the story seeks to shed light on the life of this community, and how ´normal´ the people are, desite the hardship that they live in.
