I wanted to create a scene where it’s late at night, I’m super hungry, and decide to grab a snack rom the fridge. I feel like this is a scene that is relatable to most night owls, or college students who have found themselves feeling peckish at midnight. However, you never know what’s lurking in the dark. I wanted to capture that feeling with the perspective and composition I chose. The bright light from the fridge is alarming in itself, and usually when you have bright light in your face you can’t really make out the other things that are not illuminated by the light, however, in this scene there is some light reflecting off the walls, and kitchen gadgets which help to make things more clearer for the character, as they try to figure out what they’re looking at.
I found it hard to work with colours, so I stuck to a minimal colour palette, and since most of my colours were in the cool range, I tried breaking that up by making the frigate light warm, and by adding random splashes of fuchsia in some areas, as a stylistic choice as well.
I tried to stick to the value structure I created but even this was a challenge for me and hopefully it is readable.
I am not a very clean artist, so in some areas I gave the impression of objects but didn’t really flesh them out. I I didn’t make a final line sketch either, I just worked from the loose sketch because I prefer working loosely, but I want to learn to be more patient with myself as I grow, so I can work more on my lines.
Overall I enjoyed this and learnt so much! Thank you.

Awesome 👏🏾👏🏾
@Alan Galdino Thank you very much!
Me encanta el resultado que te ha quedado.
Y me parece muy interesante el proceso de bocetar todos los planos para ver qué encuadre puede ser el mas interesante para representar la escena.
Muy chulo :)
How did you learn to draw everything from imagination? Are you on instagram too, would love to see more of your work
@vikas_sehgal02 Just getting to this now! Thank you sooo much! I don't know if the answer would still be relevant, but for this particular assignment I referenced some photographs of myself opening the fridge. I then used perspective grids to try and sketch out different scenes from different POV. The POV from outside the window I had to go outside and see what the inside looks like from that POV and then sketched it. I did a lot of exploration with perspective. And yes, I am on instagram @flat_colours I'd love to connect!
@adrianduchemin Thank you Adrian! Just getting to this now. I enjoyed the exploration process a lot. It was something I'd never done before, so the novelty of it was challenging but also fun.
