Intersection is an 18-episode audio series featuring 17 female artists from five countries launched in November 2021 and it's my most ambitious podcast project to date. Amidst the 17 conversations strong connections emerged; a web of wisdom born out of nodes of knowledge. Uncovering points of intersection to connect each artist to the next to the next became the creative constraint that I chose to work within. There are the individual stories and then there are the stories between the stories.
Starting with the primer episode (077), growth connects me to realist painter, Brooke Cormier (078), whose acceptance of failure connects her to Photoshop artist, Inger Kristine Steinsland (079), who believes that the journey is the destination, which connects her to art therapist, Amelia Hutchison (080). Whose belief that her art is also her therapy connects her to makeup artist, Billi-Rose Ledoux (081), who creates safe spaces through her art, which connects her to abstract artist, Sareka Unique (082), who chooses bright colours, connecting her to textile designer, Caroline Duffy (083), who is inspired by nature, connecting her to animator, Shen Ramu (084), who recognizes the importance of setting boundaries, connecting her to portraiture artist, Keight MacLean (085). Whose approach of ‘traditional meets modern’ connects her to bridal henna artist, Sana Riyazali Merchant (086), whose art form involves storytelling is connected to tattoo artist, Alison Zhou (087), whose research practice connects her to filmmaker, Lillian Chan (088). Whose views on creative control connect her to photographer, Sarah Wright (089), whose desires multiple creative paths connects her to paper cut artist, Sarah Dennis (090), whose incorporation of play connects her to LEGO artist, Kate Hunter (091), whose work on meaningful projects connects her to digital paper cut artist, Erin Sass (092). Whose stance on the importance of creative flow connects her to watercolour artist, Katherine Klimitas (093), whose overcoming of obstacles connects her to woodworker, Babette the Builder (094), who is connected back to me (coming full circle to 077)) in the spontaneity we share in our processes.
