Yarn Bombing Indoors

Academic Project.
Concept: Yarn Bombing Indoors.
With this project I tried to contrast the mundane nature of everyday objects with the joy and texture of the yarn objects.

This was a challenge since it was the very first photoshoot I wrote a briefing for, and executed the same briefing, all with a formal process. This was also my first big challenge with composition and lighting since I opted to have minimal noise surrounding the objects photographed, which made composition essential in making the pictures work.

Considering this was executed in the span of 1 week or so (creating the concept, making the objects, the briefing and setting up the at home studio, actually performing the shoot, editting and printing), after the main exam season had just passed, and my mental health was suffering lots due to the prior overload of work, I am pretty proud of myself on this one.

I am still learning, and I don't think this work was particularly brilliant, but it was a good challenge to my abilities, especially concept making.

I fell in love with crochet and textile arts during quarantine as a way of coping with being shut indoors and to help me alleviate the hyperactivity I have caused by ADHD, undiagnosed at the time, by keeping my hands busy with those repetitive stitches almost all day, every day.

Post presenting the work I realized that I chose objects that relate very specifically to my daily life and struggles. Once I looked at this project from the lens of my mental health at the time I developed it, it screams to me why I chose the objects I did, and because of this, even though photography isn't my passion at all, this group of photos holds a place near and dear to my heart.
