I've decided to make a somewhat controversial infographic. In September 2021, Algemeen Dagblad (a Dutch newspaper) published an article highlighting the shocking amount of drug use per day in Rotterdam. Every day, 40,000 lines of cocaine are consumed in this port city, and 67,000 cannabis joints are smoked. I translated these daily amounts into annual consumption, then figured out how long an average line and joint is - which was quite easy to find online. I then translated that into distance and graphically showed it by showing at which city you'll end up if you travel this distance from Rotterdam. In addition, I found the annual amount of liters of alcohol consumed per person (from age 0) in the Netherlands on the website of STAP (Dutch Institute for Alcohol Policy), and divided that amount by 33 centiliters (a normal can). I then multiplied that result times the population of Rotterdam, and then multiplied that number times the height of an average can and then also graphically display this. Hereby the result!
