This project called "Front of me" I started in 2017 when I just moved to New York. It is in the train where we really understands the diversity that characterizes this city, it is interesting to see how each line has a group of well-defined people who use it every day, whether to go to work, return home or to go on an appointment.
As most of the stations are underground, so we don’t have service during the trip, so I started using my phone to capture the people who sat in front of me, I did it in a very discreet way without anyone noticing, every day I needed to capture at least one image and then when night came to take some time to see in detail and analyze and think about that person , about his background, where he is from or how did he get to the city or he/she has a family etc.
Seeing the diversity in a single car makes me really value the quality of each person, it is at that moment where we are all the same, in the same car can travel CEO of an international company or a doorman.
In 2020 during the pandemic I think I was one of the first who go out and use the train again, at that time we thought that just by touching or sitting on the seat we would get the virus but I continued with the project but to a lesser I tried.
Currently I have more than 1600 images of different people that I have captured in all these years and it was so recently that I have started organizing them and I have asked myself: is this person still alive? Could it be that person has been infected and win the virus? It is a very strong but very real question. Unfortunately statistically some of them have lost the battle.
