My project in Artistic Illustration: From Drawing to Digital course

My final project is an alternative album cover for the progressive rock album "Liquid Tension Experiment II" and what I tried to do was to capture the dynamic energy and the mind-blowing (a bit on the nose, I know) display of technical skills in the music. I also wanted it to feel dreamlike and unreal. Above you see the initial sketch. The next one is the original scan of the actual physical painting/collage. The last image shows the final piece with all the digital trickery.

Hi Paul;
a hug!

Hello Marelle!
Thanks for your feedback, you’re very kind! And I’m sorry if the final project fell a bit short of your expectations. It’s difficult to pack everything one wants to do into one project (especially under time constraints) but I’ll certainly keep it in mind for the future.
Also thanks for taking the course and I’m glad you liked most of it.

Hi Paul,
I really enjoyed your class. I’m more of an analog type of person when it comes to art, I think seeing something beautifully done yet not perfect has a special charm. But learning how to digitize an image to add color was great. That lady’s portrait was my first ever. I’d never really gotten into portraits before, but after taking this class, I think I might want to start doing them with charcoal and pastels.
I haven’t started the final project yet. Hopefully, after I practice portraits a bit more, I’ll be able to come up with some ideas for an album cover.

Hi renataba!
I‘m happy to hear that you‘re inspired to try some new things after the course, that‘s great! When you have some images that you want to share I‘m looking forward to seeing them. Good luck with your explorations and thanks a lot for the kind words!
Best
Paul
