I really enjoyed the interpret an object exercise and it led to me creating my own "open your mind to creativity" exercise. Here goes:
Title of exercise: 2 drawings in 1: Seeing From Multiple Angles
Step 1. Draw with pen, pencil or crayon (color or black)
draw random shapes like a kid scribbling/doodle for 115-30sec. Stop look closely at results - do you see any images within your doodle? like interpreting a cloud what drawing is hidden in your scribbles?
Step 2. Take 10-15min to go over your sketch and make the image come out - maybe its a face - a monster. - a teacup? don't worry about making it perfect just try to make it identifiable to you, others might not see the image but that's okay.
Step 3. Now turn your drawing upside down. See if you can change the existing upside-down sketch into something else from this new perspective. This can be challenging sometimes even upside down the first image seems to dominate .. keep looking.
Final step go over images shade in if another color see if you can continue to see both images turning image upside down.
Here are some examples - the seal drawing - I feel like if I continuously tried to draw a seal I would have had a hard time - similarly the one of the woman with weird hair its an odd perspective but cool! and the one of the man leaning over - if you told me to draw a man leaning over I would be tough time but this just was there.. so much fun!
