My work is a visual journey of self-acceptance, self-discovery, freedom, and pure expression of the uncluttered mind and heart. It is the result of breaking down life’s complexities, letting go of unfulfilling pursuits, and reconnecting with the raw, liberated inner self.
Through my photographic juxtapositions –mostly overlays of women on found objects and spaces– I create personal narratives that represent different challenges in my life, among them the language between men and woman, equality and the celebration of women and the body. I build an intricate storyline that the viewer must piece together, and whose underlying statement reads, “we are much more than the external world.”
My paintings, like my photographs, offer glimpses of my personal search for connectivity and liberation, rawness, and unhindered femininity. Through numerous layers of washed out oil paint, free-flowing marks, organic references, hidden words, and female nude bodies - often times my own - I invite the viewer to intimately connect with the painting, by eliciting feelings of boldness, disentanglement, and strength. The persistent absence of faces in my paintings directs focus toward the expression of the naked form, a representation of liberation and empowerment.
