A project by Oti Benitez, Guillem Giró, Noan Calatrava, Carla Carrasco, Ana Bellido and Albert Canals at Elisava School of Design.
The interaction has been designed with the aim of relaxing and calming the users. Therefore, it is a combination of sound and light as a result of people’s contact with the columns, with the objective of getting users to embrace these structures and relax completely.
The idea is to create a space of columns in a room attached to the waiting rooms of hospitals, to have the option to choose where you want to stay. Users will enter and touch the columns. Depending on their reactions to the sounds and lights they see, they will touch more and more surfaces until they completely embrace the column with their arms. The embrace is the maximum action to achieve in this installation.
There are several columns because the installation is for the use of several people at the same time. We want it to be an experience with the possibility of making it intimate/individual or with interaction with other people, with the possibility of choosing what one wants. There is a vibration that simulates a heartbeat so that one can feel it and tune in. The lights that appear are passed from one column to another according to the action performed to give the sensation of energy transmission between columns. It is a very intuitive installation but new users will find it difficult if they don’t take the first step.
