Harvesting a nice American Beech branch from a downed tree.Enough wood for 4 eating spoons.Lots of grain depth. This branch was at least 20 years old.Time out for a quick smoke as I ponder my tools, the wood and what comes next. After measuring the spoon length, I cut a section to size and then split. I was worried about the knots. The finished spoon blank. Ready to apply the template and start roughing with the axe.Laying the template onto the blank for tracing.I cut a wedge into the stump for holding the spoon so I could work some of the harder angles. The finished roughed spoon. Time for the knife!Finished roughing with the knife. I'm going to let it dry for a couple days and then finish. Will bake and oil after that.My tool bucket. Holds everything nicely!I'm not sure what I'll use these for, but I'm sure I'll think of something.
