My project in Ornamental Lettering course

I've always loved vintage hand lettered typography so was itching for the chance to learn how to design something in this style.

Havi Cruz is a super skilled lettering artist. In this course he shows you a glimpse of how he creates his masterpieces. It is only a glimpse however, I quickly realised that I could never get my fine sketch looking as awesome as his no matter how many drafts I did. It's just something that needs years of practice and experience to get good at. Still, I managed to sketch something vaguely interesting and followed his steps from base sketch to fine detail and then to the vector drawing process.

I decided I didn't like the gold leaf effect he showed in his videos so I went and did my own thing for my final project.

This course is quite brief compared to some others I've done. I see it as an interesting introduction to the world of ornamental hand lettering but it's not really a step by step tutorial - you have to pretty much go out and do a ton of your own research and practice.

The translated subtitles are so so. I got enough information I needed to work through my project. I hope to continue developing my hand lettering skills from now on.
