Andy Kempfert

I am a native and current resident of Arizona and a “born again photographer”. In college, I studied art, with an emphasis on photography. Even though I pursued other things for a living after college, including stained glass and over twenty years in IT, I was always aware of light and the interaction of light and shadow. In 2009, I fell in love with photography again and purchased my first digital camera. I took some classes in digital photography classes but spent a lot of my time learning from online classes and self-study. Even though I was working full time in IT, I was shooting off-road races, rodeo, and other events.

In 2016, after working in the IT department for a company for over twenty years, I was separated from my job after cutbacks, and instead of looking for another job in IT, decided to go another direction and pursue my love of photography. Even though I have done different types of photography, and continue to do so, my primary focus is on portraiture and art. In portrait photography, I like to try to bring out their real personality or show another side of a person that most do not see.
