Issues with Viewing PDFs
Blank PDFs
There are known problems with Microsoft Internet Explorer and Adobe PDF files. We have confirmed the problem with IE 5.5 and IE 6.0. If a blank or incomplete page, or an error message that "the connection has timed out" appears on your screen, we recommend you use one of the following workarounds.
1. Configure your browser to use Acrobat as a Helper Application. After you configure an Acrobat viewer as a helper application, your browser starts the Acrobat viewer in a separate window and displays PDF files within that window. Acrobat 4.x and later viewers include a preference option that enables you to specify the viewer as a helper application. ( Note: Configuring Acrobat as a helper application instead of a plug-in will disable the byte-serving (page-at-a-time downloading) capabilities.
To configure an Acrobat 5.0 viewer as a helper application:
1. Start the Acrobat 5.0 viewer.
2. Choose Edit > Preferences > General.
3. Select Options from the column on the left.
4. Deselect the Display PDF in Browser option in Web Browser Options, and then click OK.
5. Exit from the Acrobat 5.0 viewer.
To configure an Acrobat 4.x viewer as a helper application:
1. Start your Acrobat 4.x viewer.
2. Choose File > Preferences > General.
3. Deselect the Web Browser Integration option in the Options section, and then click OK.
4. Exit from the Acrobat 4.x viewer.
2. Save the file.
PC Users: Right-click the link to the PDF file and selecting "Save Target As..." and save it to somewhere easy to find, such as your desktop. You can then exit the web browser and open the local file.
Mac Users: Click and hold on the link. A menu will appear. Select "Save Target As..." and save it to somewhere easy to find, such as your desktop. You can then exit the web browser and open the local file.
3. Make sure you have the latest version of the Acrobat reader installed. You can get this free software from http://www.adobe.com.
4. Check to see if the document has opened in a different window. Try minimizing your open programs one-by-one, in case the file is open where you can't see it.
