Mugatik International Photo Festival

Mugatik is a fictitious international photo festival that would be celebrated in the streets of Irún (Basque Country, Spain), a small city next to the French border.

The Basque word mugatik means from the frontier, and the logo depicts that concept as it is broken in two parts like the border between Irún and the French territory, delimited by the Bidasoa river. However, it is not straight and definite, since some letters cross it with their strokes, representing the will of the festival to collaborate with other countries and create an international photography event.

From the logo, I created a graphic system that would help people be guided along Irún during the festival, including a map, some posters and a sign system that share the same visual identity.

Mugatik es un festival internacional de fotografía ficticio que se celebraría en las calles de Irún (Euskadi, España), una pequeña ciudad limítrofe con la frontera francesa.

La palabra vasca mugatik significa desde la frontera, y el logotipo representa ese concepto, al estar roto en dos partes como la frontera entre Irún y el territorio francés, delimitada por el río Bidasoa. Sin embargo, esta división no es recta ni definida, ya que algunas partes de las letras pasan de un lado a otro, representando así la voluntad del festival de colaborar con otros países y crear un evento internacional de fotografía.

A partir del logo, surge un sistema gráfico que ayudaría a orientar a los asistentes a través de Irún, y que icluye un mapa, carteles y un sistema señalético que comparten una misma identidad visual.

To complement text on the map and the signs, I developed a picto system that could be expandable and works for the festival's visual identity, since the pictograms were created from the logo and, therefore, share its graphic style with Bahnschrift (the typeface that I chose for the whole identity and from which the logo was built).

Para complementar al texto en el mapa y la señalética, he desarrollado un sistema de pictogramas que podría ser ampliable y funciona para la identidad visual del festival, ya que los pictogramas fueron creados a partir del logo y, por tanto, comparten su estilo gráfico con Bahnschrift (la tipografía elegida para toda la identidad y a partir de la cual el logo ha sido construido.

And last but not least, I made a motion graphics video starting from the posters. It would work as an additional promotional piece. Hope you like it!
