Hello, I am Mauro Frazão, a textile artist passionate about contemporary tapestry. My journey began informally, as a hobby to unwind. However, this passion quickly blossomed into an artistic career, leading me to receive international recognition. Today, I am here to share with you the technique I consider the heart of artistic tapestry: the Russian stitch and its variations.
In February 2020, I went to Salvador to give a street photography workshop on the week of the traditional Yemanjá Festival. At this time, the city is invaded by tourists and photographers (like me), which ended up turning the party into a big carnival. When I am going to photograph such an event, I try to avoid the place where photographers usually flock - in this case, by the beach. I ended up eating by the edges and exploring much more the surroundings of the ceremony, the characters who were there on the mundane side of the event and the vendors who had spent the night on the street to guarantee a place and ended up falling asleep at the time of the party.
