Once again, time got the better of me, and I was overwhelmed by an avalanche of work that prevented me from finishing my piece for the exhibition curated by Chogrin and held at the Botlleneck Gallery in New York, themed on the anniversary of our favorite plumber, Mario Bros.
Since I didn't want this to end up in the gutter, I'm sharing it with you here.
My sketches always start with pencil on paper. I think it gives it a certain special feeling. I like that feeling of sliding the pencil, I like not having that "undo" tool, and since I hate erasers, it's an adventure having all those scratches and lines overlapping.
After scanning, I transfer it to Illustrator, where I vectorize all the elements. Sometimes, even if the character is hidden by another, I prefer to trace it completely in case I need it in the future. The vectorization includes a color selection in paste, and once finished, I export individual layers for each element to Photoshop, where I texture and add details.
Pencil sketch.
Bocetaje a lápiz.
Vectorized and colored in layers to be exported to Photoshop in individual layers.
Finally, in Photoshop, the final details are colored, textured, and added. Here you can see a comparison of the final result when working in Photoshop versus vectorized.
