Photo Booth

This piece is in celebration of a pride month and centers around a queer couple sharing a private moment inside a Photo Booth. I was drawn to the idea of using a Photo Booth as a symbolism for something that is hidden from the public eye and a space where love and joy can exist freely without judgment. Often seen as iconic scenes in pop culture and entertainment where intimate and private moments are kept from others behind curtain, which can be related to those whose love has not always been welcomed in the open. Now I have illustrated a queer couple in a public Photo Booth used for embracing pride. Pride is a time of loud celebration, being seen and heard, and now can be documented through photography in public spaces. This drawing is also my way of honoring those fleeting, joyful moments of love that can be seen celebrated and remembered not just during Pride, but in every day life.

The software i am using is a iPad Pro and pencil with the program procreate. I am using mostly a set of risograph brushes to replicate a realistic graph print look.

I started off looking up photos on Pinterest and creating a mood board of various references I can use in my drawing and created my first rough sketch.

I have drew out the line art for my drawing in procreate.

I started the coloring using my unique color palette and brushes to fill in the line art

To give the artwork more depth, I added some cell shading in places where I could use it. As well as adding black shadows and halftones as a signature look that I like to use many of my artworks

I added text to the Photo Booth and signage to indicate that it was celebrating pride by encouraging anyone, and everyone to enjoy taking pictures

And then I added some paper texture overlays to make the image look more realistic and vintage, which is style I like then something more polished
